2024 FALL COACHING SCHEDULE
(effective from September 3 to 15, 2024)
COACHED ROWING AND INDEPENDENT ROWING AT HANLAN
All scheduled sessions (coloured tiles) in the chart above are coached.
While we encourage members to sign up for coached sessions, members with sufficient skill and experience can also row independently, without a safety boat, in private or club boats. Coached sessions always have priority for equipment use.
To row without a safety boat, you must:
Be 19 years of age or older. Junior rowers must always row with a safety boat.
Have at least two years of rowing experience at Hanlan or be cleared by your program coach.
Be familiar with and follow the Hanlan Safety Policy and Emergency Action Plan BEFORE VENTURING OUT. Importantly:
Know and adhere to the traffic pattern.
Carry all required safety equipment (lifejacket, whistle, cell phone in waterproof case) with you at all times.
Do a safety check to ensure the boat is in good working condition before you leave the dock.
Report all boat damage.
Program all safety numbers into your phone.
Follow rough water, wind and weather rules.
Clean the boat and return it to the rack or trolley where you found it after every use.
Row with a buddy boat if using club equipment. Both boats must stay within visual range of each other.
At minimum, be able to row backwards, turn and spin the boat, dock the boat gently (i.e., no crashing into dock) and self-rescue from a capsize.
Sign out your boat so that we know you are on the water.
Details about which boats may be signed out and the process for signing out boats has been communicated directly to members.
